Bike around the block tonight...

Finally got both RockyMount racks on the bummer. Time to go downtown and see how they work!

Fat gears!

So I rode the cheapo fat bike a few times while it was freezing cold outside. It is a rediculous workout! The sheer weight of the bike is still hard to handle and makes me doubt the purchase in general but I am staying in it to win it! (Or something)

Upgrade two, as suggested by the internet, is gearing. The BMX gearing that the bike comes with isn't even close to being appropriate for the anticipated use of te bike so I am upgrading!
The black app let is the original 18t piece, and the silver is a shimano nexus 22t piece I bought off Amazon for about $9.

First mod for the snow bike

Amusingly I made my frost mod before I even rode the bike!
I replaced the steel seatpost that it came with with an Aluminum one that I had sitting here. Still have the mongoose seat on it.

After work I took it out for an inaugural ride. The gearing definitely needs some changes and I need a front brake, but the tires performed great in the 1" of fresh snow that was melting tonight. Will drop the air pressure down and try it is some deeper snow maybe next week.

New bicycle

So this is the first brand new bike I have ever bought!
It is a *cough cough cough* with some sick tires.
It weighs in at about 48.5lbs out of the box, without air in the tires...:D
Most people are curious why I have bought this monster of a bicycle. Simple: I don't have to worry about the paint or anything and if I should go big enough to damage the frame I can always weld'er back together!!

Here comes the fun I think!

more work on the Trike

I love chrome polish and fine steel wool. It gives yous so much in exchange for a little elbow grease!
In this picture you can see that the rim does not look to be in very good condition. Now? looks like a charm! It still has pits and spots, but it is very shiny and handsome!

I also have received an email back from Worksman Cycles from my inquiry from them about this trike. Sadly they lost all records before 1965 in a shop fire so do not have anything from before that period. They do believe that it looks like an early model of theirs but nobody who currently works there has any particular knowledge of it.

The bed, which has E-LAB stenciled on the side of it also has the word SWORD painted over on the side, which might be interesting if I had any connection at FMC-NSD to find out what SWORD was, or what it stood for. For those who haven't read the previous post FMC-NSD made armaments, mostly for Navy ships, from WW2 through the 1970s, at which point they were taken over by various companies now composing BAE Systems.
I believe the sticker says Vehicle No. #302

I have also discovered that the front rim is strung to a Bendix Type K hub, and the rear free hub is too rusted to make anything out yet.
Cheers!
